In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza.  https://nevefrietzki.co.il/ It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The opening ceremony of the tunnel which measures 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a very sought-after tourist destination due to its historical past. Elkin stated that, in addition to its historical treasures, modern tourism is also included in the Jerusalem city. I invite all cyclists to come and take a ride along the contemporary, well-maintained road which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by the Elkin's department as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of altering the way of transportation in Jerusalem. "The new tunnel that connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing paths for bicycles and those that will paved in its areas. It's designed to encourage cycling within the city's residents and to promote the green revolution in transport in Jerusalem."



The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the late 1990s to relocate the main sewer line from the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek It is situated to the west of the city. It is used today as an infrastructure tunnel. It also includes the fifth water line to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

To make the tunnel usable to the public all year round, the works include road construction and installation of blowers.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
