The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bike tunnel, opened as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.
The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile from the Kerem junction.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated in a ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.
Jerusalem was once well-known tourist destination due to its historical past. Elkin added that in addition to its rich history, modern tourism is also integrated into the Jerusalem city. "The launch (of [this] tunnel project is another aspect of the development of Jerusalem and it's transformation into a sought-after tourist city for all sorts of visitors across Israel and around the world."
Elkin the minister whose ministry as well as the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem's tourists and in the development and operation of innovative attractions, ventures , and other attractions that connect the glorious history of Jerusalem to its future". Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

It includes the fifth water line to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel allows for access to unique recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which has a Biblical zoo and aquarium and also the historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
